2016 Kentucky Area Council Awards

The Cliff Hagan Boys & Girls Club entry is a booklet created by Diane Bowers, Board Member, documenting the Positive Sprouts program implemented in 2015. One of the goals of the Positive Sprouts program was to introduce Club members to the world of entrepreneurship. The youth sold a portion of their harvest at the local Farmer's Market. The money they earned was divided among the youth who staffed the booth. Another aspect of the program was to give back to the community. They shared the vegetable they harvested not only with their families but with the local homeless shelter. They learned about marketing - how to display their produce at the Farmer's Market and how to communicate with customers who bought their produce. 

This year, the Club will construct a greenhouse so more youth can be involved in the entire process. The booklet gives a snapshot of the project and shows how it helped Owensboro improve lives the lives of the young people who need us most.
